Unveiling the New Logo for CCEM

We are excited to introduce our new logo, a thoughtfully designed emblem that reflects the heart of our faith-based organization. This logo is more than just a visual marker—it embodies our shared values, our connection to the ExxonMobil Houston campus, and our dedication to building a Christ-centered community. As we unveil this new symbol, we invite our members and the broader ExxonMobil family to discover its significance and join us in embracing its message.

Why Redesign Our Logo?

We last refreshed CCEMs’s logo in 2018. This logo has served its purpose but we’ve found it to be limiting because it didn’t show well on stickers, didn’t work well on dark backgrounds, and it started to feel dated. We see our logo as one of the primary way we can advertise CCEM’s existence, and so believe it is important to have one that stands out. We wanted one that showed well on a sticker or shirt, and for it to be something that people would be proud of.

When we set out to redesign we set a few objectives for our new logo:

  1. It had to quickly identify CCEM as a Christian organization.
  2. It must have the flexibility to work in different mediums and on different backgrounds.
  3. It should look modern and professional.

By the grace of God, we feel that this new logo achieves these objectives.

The Meaning Behind Our Logo

The primary objective of our logo is to identify CCEM as a Christian organization, so we quickly settled on a cross as the right symbol to convey that. Far from a traditional design, the cross in our new logo is crafted from geometric shapes—vibrant and modern—symbolizing the dynamic faith that drives our community. The cross stands as a powerful reminder of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and love, uniting us across diverse backgrounds and roles within ExxonMobil. It anchors our mission, reflecting our commitment to live out Christian principles in our workplace and beyond.

The cross is brought to life with a palette of colors—yellow, blue, green, and red—each carefully chosen to represent the building quads at the ExxonMobil Houston campus. The blue segment corresponds to the Wellness quad, the green to the Nature quad, the red to Energy and yellow to Science. These colors are not just decorative; they weave a tangible link between our faith community and the physical spaces where we work and connect daily. By mirroring the campus layout, the logo fosters a sense of unity and belonging, reminding us that no matter where we are—Nature, Energy, off-campus, or elsewhere—we are part of one CCEM family, bound together under the banner of Christ.

To the right of the cross, the acronym "CCEM" stands bold in dark blue (or white against a blue background, depending on the version), paired with the full name "Christian Community at ExxonMobil" below it. The clean, sans-serif font ensures professionalism and clarity, aligning with the corporate environment of ExxonMobil while proudly declaring our purpose. Set against a simple white or deep blue background, the logo’s vibrant colors and crisp text pop, making it versatile for everything from digital platforms to printed materials.

How We Did It

We’ve actually been trying to redesign CCEM’s logo for years. We have tried (and failed) to apply an engineering mindset to logo design and found the results… disappointing. We have had the privilege of working with a few talented and creative individuals, but circumstances never allowed us to complete our effort to redesign our logo.

This year, we decided to initiate a logo contest online. We did this so that we could engage a wide variety of designers and see a diverse set of designs. We began the exercise hoping that the Lord would bless us with some 40-60 designs to chose from, praying that some of them would be good. And God really blessed us. We ended up seeing participation from 44 different designers who submitted 242 different designs! That is four times more participation than we ever expected, so praise God for the success we saw here!

We tested these designs against our original objectives, weighed their aesthetic appeal, and sought the opinion of family and friends. We iterated with designers to explore different concepts, helping us to narrow in on the perfect logo. Eventually we narrowed down to 3 different designs and then opened up a poll for our internal Zoom community to share their input (huge thanks to those of you who voted and commented. If you aren’t in our internal Zoom channel, please consider joining to hear about things like this).

The result is our new logo!

Looking Ahead

Ultimately we thank God for our ability to launch a contest like this, for His blessings with the success of the contest, and for Him blessing so many talented designers with the skills they have.

We hope that you love the logo and that it reminds you that we can live out our faith here at work. Be on the lookout for opportunities to get some laptop stickers to help you showcase your CCEM passion! 👀

P.S. If you have a passion for design, photography, videography, writing, or other creative pursuits, please pray about volunteering to use your passion and skills to help CCEM. We are always in need of talented people! Let us know if you’d like to help.
